Elouise Gibson Obituary
Born May 8, 1934, in Marlboro County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elva Beverly Stanton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Sidney Tyson "Badeye" Gibson; sisters, Myrtle Stanton and Sue Catherine "Pie" Peele; brothers, Willie, June, and Buck Stanton; stepsister and brother, Dub and Inez Herndon.
She is survived by two sons, Gene Gibson and wife, Kathy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Casey Gibson of Smithfield; special friend, Shirley Bennett of Newport News; and two daughters, Jackie Widner and husband, Larry of New London, N.C., and Judy Dixon and husband, Steve of Mathews, Va.
She leaves behind six loving grandchildren, Jennifer and Stephen, Jeremy and Nicole, Charlyn and Caitlyn; and five great-grandchildren, Clark, Jordan, Hope, Baylee, and Myla; two additional great-grandchildren on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
She was an active member of Harbor Baptist Church.
Special thanks go to devoted caregiver, Irene McClelland; the wonderful and loving staff of James River Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center; Sentara Hospital's 5th floor staff; staff of Virginia Oncology Associates; and Sentara Infusion Center.
Donations in her honor are requested to be made to the American Red Cross.
Receiving of friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, also at Peninsula Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hampton. In loving memory of Bootsie . I am Mary Brackenridge of Virginia sister in law of Bill and Ella Mae. I loved being around your Mother. She was always the life of the party. I know you miss her sadly. I remember a lot of things she said to me . One that stands out is

Back since I was about 6 or 7 ( in the 60's ), I have known Bootsie. I remember always coming to her house in having a cold Pepsi - in those days a real glass bottle. My sister Barbara would spend time with Jackie and Judy while I was there.
In recent years, Bootsie ,my mother, and I would eat at Bill's Seafood.
I also remember, always calling Bootsie when there would be some type of country music awards show on. She loved her country music.
Whenever I would take a gambling trip, Bootsie would tell me to leave my ATM/bank card at home with her. She always looked out for me.
When I was down or depressed I would go to Bootsie for comfort. She always knew what to say to make me feel better.
There is lots more I can say, but most importantly know how much I loved her- she was like a second mom to me, so I feel like she and all the family are like my extended family.
May God bless each and every member of Bootsie's family, relatives, and friends.
She was a rare treasure in my life, and words cannot describe how much I will miss her.
I will always think of Bootsie when I see anything country or take one of those trips.
Bootsie's kids are so close and that's a blessing.

To Bootsie's Children, I know your hearts are heavy but time will heal your sadness. Your mother was "one of a kind" and we will always cherish our time with her. I will cherish my last visit with her and I thank God for the time we had Bootsie with us. It is very hard to lose a Mom. Please keep in touch with all of us (Alma's kids). All my love, Fay Barber

My life was better having "Nannie Boot" in my life. She was such a wonderful person and I loved her dearly. May the memory of her sweet soul remind us all how blessed we were to have her in our lives. Love and miss you all.

We will forever miss Bootsie here at the Infusion Center. She was always giving us caramel creams to "sweeten" us up.... Our hearts and prayers go out to her family. If you guys need anything, come by and see us! We love you!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. I remember when we first moved to Va. Heights in the late 60's and meet your family. Bootsie always had a way of getting the whole story out of us when we were kids even if we didn't want to tell her. She always made you feel comfortable when you were around her. As we became young adults she always seemed truly interested in our lives. I'll miss her as I know all of you will but the fond memories I have of her will never leave me.

Gibson family, and especially Gene,
Bootsie and Badeye are still close to my heart, 40 years after they welcomed me into their home during our summer college days. We laughed and had so much fun. The love and bond of your family was obvious, and will sustain you during this difficult time. God Bless you.

I'm sorry to hear of your lose and please know that Buddy really loved Aunt Bootsie. They loved to go to Uncle Tyson's house to eat. I especially remember that refrig she had, you open the freezer with a pull out drawer, and of course all the Carolina cooking that she did. We love and will miss you lots

To the family of Aunt Bootsie, I will forever cherish the memories. My grandfather Wilbert would take me to see Aunt Bootsie and Uncle Tyson as a child and she always had some ice cream and would sit and talk with me, in her sweet and loving way. It is those little things that count the most.
