Elvis Robbs Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Elvis 'Robbie' Sherman Robbs, age 82, died Oct. 23, 2009, at Riverside Hospital. Robbie was born in Salina, Kan.
Mary, his beloved wife of 50 years, passed away in 2000; and his daughter, Kathy passed away in 2007.
Robbie had the fortune of enjoying retirement for more than 25 years, after leaving a Civil Service Air Force career of 30 years. Prior to the Air Force, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was also a high school teacher and basketball coach in Kansas.
Robbie had an active retirement that he filled with bowling three times a week, bingo, fishing, and golf. He had many friends, but none more special than Kay. Kay and Robbie were often seen together, smiling and enjoying life.
Robbie was a loving father and grandfather. In his eyes his family was his greatest accomplishment and he was extremely proud of them all. His children and grandchildren will greatly miss him, but they are happy he has rejoined the love of his life in heaven.
He is survived by his two sons, Mike and Tim and their wives, Vickie and Tammy, five grandchildren, Shawn, Brianne, Josh, Chris and Nicci; and two great-grandchildren, Eddie and Dominic.
The family will be receiving friends and family from 1 to 2 p.m., with funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Peninsula Funeral Home, with a private family entombment in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Jeff Linkous

October 27, 2009

Hello. This is for Mike & Tim. My name is Jeff Linkous. You probably don't remember me so this may help jog your memory. I dated Kathy in 1975-76 when you lived in Wendwood. When Kathy & I first started dating, I drove a 1965 Chevy van painted yellow & black with red flames down the side. Later I got a new orange 1975 Chevy Vega. Kathy had a dark blue Mercury Capri and she was working for an orthodontist in Hampton. Our circle of friends included Jim Heart, Bo Hanson and Dickie Roberts. Mike was living near D.C. delivering Coke products and Tim was a teenager in High school.Remember?
I am sorry for your loss of your father. I remember him as a good man and he always treated me well. I was surprised to read about the loss of your mother and especially Kathy's passing. I remember your mother as a soft spoken, kind Lady. The last time I saw Kathy was about 1977-78.Over the years I lost track of all of the people I knew then. From time to time I wondered where they were and what they were doing. I always imagined Kathy would get married, have some kids and have a good life.
I can really sympathize with you at this time. Over the years I've lost both parents and an older brother. Like me, you had wonderful parents and I know they will live on in your good memories. I'm sorry for your loss and I wish you well.
