Erna DEUBEL Obituary
Born in Nunschweiler, Germany, she had been a Peninsula resident for the past 46 years. Erna retired after many years as an executive housekeeper in the hotel industry. She was a member of the Ft. Eustis Regimental Chapel. Known to many as "The Frau," she will be fondly remembered for her fearless spirit and wonderful sense of humor.
Mrs. Deubel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Alois F. Deubel; parents, Georg and Frieda Roos; siblings, Olga Ehrlicher, Elsa Edam, Kurt and Eicheng Roos, and Hertha Moll; and son-in-law, Jorge Rivero.
She is survived by her daughters, Laura Rivero, and Michele Grossenbaugh and husband, Douglas, both of Yorktown; sister, Ella Keipert of Zweibrucken, Germany; four grandchildren, Olivia and Oliver Rivero, and Alison and Andria Grossenbaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews residing in Germany.
The family would like to extend their heart-felt thanks to the staff at the Gardens At Warwick Forest, for all their care during her stay there.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Larry Edmonds. My deepest sympathy for your loss. Your mother/grandmother was a very special person. The Frau was loved by all those who knew her. She will be greatly missed but will be forever with us in our hearts and memories. Know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this most difficult time. Ms. Deubel was one of my mother's most special friends. Growing up on Woodhaven Road brings back many memories of her and the family. My mother continued to visit her throughout her final years, bringing homemade soups and German potato salad. Mom and Ms. Deubel were like sisters. My utmost heartfelt loss and sorrow for a wonderful woman. I remember Erna hiring me as a high school kid to work my first job as a teenager at Ramada Inn East Williamsburg and then following her to work at Days Inn off of Richmond Rd. She always cared for me like a son and because of her, I was able to learn a great work ethic that I use to this very day. I will miss her and can't wait to meet her in paradise one day. - Ricky T.
