Fannie BOYD Obituary
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her two husbands, Quinn Coleman Shelton Sr. and James L. Boyd; her brothers, Richard, Leon, and Henry Armistead; and her sisters, Juanita Thomas and Norma Parks; as well as her grandson, Jon Michael Shelton.
Fannie passed on to God April 12, 2010.
Fannie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Fannie was a long-term member of the Pinochle Bugs Club of the Peninsula, with her husband, Quinn, a member of the Beau Brummell Club. Fannie worked in the periodicals section of the Hampton Institute library from 1961 until 1979. In January 1971, Quinn C. Shelton Sr. died. Fannie married James L. Boyd in 1979 and moved to Summit, N.J., returning to the Virginia Peninsula after his death in 1999. Fannie was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.
Fannie is survived by her sister, Rosa Holland; her sons, Quinn Coleman Shelton Jr. and his wife, Iva, Leon Armistead Shelton Sr. and his wife, Jean, Charles Alan Shelton and his wife, Denise; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Fannie is remembered dearly by many people in Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg, as well as, numerous students who used the resources of the Hampton Institute library while she worked there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton by the Rev. Msgr. Robert M. Perkins. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), 228 W. Lexington St. Baltimore, MD 21201-3413, the Peninsula Catholic High School, 600 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601 or Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666 in Fannie's name.

So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My mother and she were born the same month, same year, but yours outlived mine by many years. My deepest condolences for you, Leon and your family. Rest in Peace, Fannie Boyd and peace to the family.
