Frances Monroe Obituary

HAMPTON - Frances (Joy) Monroe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 7, 2009.
Joy was born on Aug. 1, 1925, in Hartshorne, Okla.; fell in love with and married her best friend, Louis Monroe in 1942. She provided love and support to Louis while he served his country in the United States Army and Air Force until they made a permanent home in Hampton in 1969.
Joy was a devoted member of West Hampton Baptist Church where she served in many ministries. She taught Sunday school, served on the building committee and missions promoting Christian literacy.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 67 years, Dr. Louis Monroe; her son, Johnye Monroe, his wife, Jo Ann, son, Randy Monroe; granddaughter, Elizabeth Monroe Hill, who she raised as a daughter, her husband, Greg; beloved grandchildren, Michael Monroe, his wife, Bobbie Jo; Laura Monroe, Robert Monroe, and April Monroe; and her three great-grandchildren, Monroe Hill, Hannah Monroe, and Marshal Hill.
Her family praises God for her life which will be celebrated at a visitation at Peninsula Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Her memorial service will be held at West Hampton Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m.

My heart goes out to all of you and I wish that I could be there at this time. Grandmother was a beautiful woman in every way and always made me feel a part of the family. She will be greatly missed by us all but I look forward to the day that we are reunited at our Father's side.
