HAMPTON - Frank Clark "Jitt" Mann, 98, of Hampton, passed away peacefully at Sentara Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, February 17, 2014. Born in Phoebus, Frank joined Zion Baptist Church, attended public schools in Hampton and graduated from Phenix High School. He was also a graduate of Hampton Institute's class of 1941. A World War II veteran, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 593rd Field Artillery Battalion of the 93rd Infantry Division, Asian Pacific Theatre, with the United Sates Army. He was cited for participation in several battles including, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, and Bismarck Archipelago. After the war, he returned to Hampton and was employed by the U. S. Postal Service. He retired as manager of the Phoebus office with many years of service. Jitt was an active member of the Beau Brummell Social Club, the Hampton University Alumni Association, the HU Emeritus Class and the Hampton University (athletic) Booster Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, William S. and Dinah Clark Mann; siblings, Frederick, William S. Jr., Thomas, Robert, George, Susie and Elizabeth Jolly; and a special niece Doris Curry Parks. He is survived by sisters, Hattie Mann Coleman and Sadie Mann Curry; brother-in-law, Clarence F. Curry Sr.; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10 am, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 9 am until the hour of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be sent to the Emeritus Class, Office of Alumni Affairs, Hampton University. O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
