This is Shaw L. Yu, formal colleague for many years with Furman. I am in Beijing, China now. Due to my travel I was unable to attend the funeral on June 11.
I was deeply saddened by the news of Furman's passing, which was quite a shock because I remember Furman was always keen on keeping himself in shape and healthy. I still can picture vividly his running around campus with Baber and Demetsky almost every day.
Furman was a superb boss to me and I'll miss him dearly. I want to send my deepest condolences to Mrs. Barton and other family members.
Respectfully,
Shaw L. Yu

Pat, without Furman's help, advice, and encouragement, the new spine cage being developed by 4-Web Spine would not exist. I will always remember Furman as a good friend and colleague. My prayers are with you and your family.
