YORKTOWN - George L. Maddrea, Jr., 75, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. George was a native of Richmond, Virginia and a Peninsula resident since 1963. A graduate of Manchester High School in Richmond in 1955, he earned degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1962, The University of Virginia in 1968 and Purdue University in 1970. He was an Electrical Engineer at NASA and retired in 2003 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church, Bremond Masonic Lodge #241, Newport News Scottish Rite, the Early V8 Ford Club of America and the NASA Langley Apiculture Club. He enjoyed raising cattle on his farm in Lunenburg County and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Betty Maddrea; a son, Blair Scott Maddrea and his wife Theodora of Glen Allen, VA; his daughters, Leigh Ann Carroll and her husband Steve of Williamsburg and Jean Cusmano and her husband Vinnie of Frisco, TX; and seven grandchildren, Kelly, Justin, Nicholas, Amber, Nikolas, Karl, and Alexander. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church in Yorktown. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton.
