Gerald SMITH Obituary
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Gerald had lived in Portsmouth, and had resided in Smithfield since 1991.
Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from Christopher Newport University as a real estate purchasing agent.
He is survived by his companion and mother of his children, Judy Eaton Smith; his three sons, Roger, Robert and Steven Smith; his sister, Sally Mayhall.
A service celebrating Gerald's life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, in Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

My heart is in Smithfield, Va. today, as America buries a hero. Thanks for the friendship, Jerry. Heartfelt condolences to all friends and family.

Gerald "Jerry" Smith was a valuable and hard working colleague during much of my tenure as President of Christopher Newport College and later Christopher Newport University. His very cheerful personality was matched by a strong work ethic. My condolences to his family. Anthony R. Santoro
