POQUOSON - Dr. Gerald Q. "Jerry" Freeman Sr., 85, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, with his family by his side.
He was a graduate of Poquoson High School, Randolph Macon College, and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Randolph Macon, and a U. S. Navy veteran. He retired from dentistry in 1975 after a disabling stroke. A waterman and farmer at heart, he spent his retirement focused on family, gardening, and jewelry making.
Dr. Freeman was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Margie" Pitchford Freeman; his parents, George E. and Viola "Murph" Forrest Freeman; and his brother, Robert S. Freeman.
He is survived by four children, Jenny Ward and husband, Durand, Lynne Weaver and husband, Robert, Dr. Gerald Q. Freeman Jr. and wife, Karen, and Dr. George "Gee" Freeman and wife, Heather; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his best friends, Freeman Dryden and Bill Weston.
Dr. Freeman's wishes were that his cremains be scattered along with his wife's in a private family gathering.
