Gregor O. HUBER

SPRING GROVE - Gregor O. Huber, 91, of Spring Grove, and of Wakefield, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Waverly Healthcare Center after a period of declining health.
He was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Surry County to Gregor S. and Odie Brittle Huber. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Edith Huber Epps.
He moved to Wakefield in 1938, where he lived until 1985 when he moved back to Surry County. He was a World War II Bronze Star recipient, a member of the 91st Infantry Division, and saw combat during the closing months of the war in northern Italy as he thought of his wife and two sons in Wakefield. Returning to Wakefield after the war, he drove a delivery truck for the American Oil Company until he became a teller at the Bank of Sussex and Surry in the 1960s. He retired in 1986 as CEO of the bank.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife of 72 years, Katy Berryman Huber; sons, Thomas O. Huber of Surry County, John R. Huber of Richmond, and William G. Huber. He is also survived by a brother, David C. Huber and his wife, Diney of Greensboro, N.C.; a nephew, Curtis W. Huber and his wife, Katie of Boulder, Colo.; and a niece, Ellen H. Robinson and her husband, David of Mill Valley, Calif.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Union Christian Church, 2654 New Design Rd, Dendron, VA 23839, with Pastor Charles Willman II officiating.
