Helen SLAUSON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Helen V. Slauson, 91, of Williamsburg, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010.
Born in 1918, she was the youngest daughter of William and Malisa Volenberg. She was mainly raised in York County, Va., and finally settled in James City County. There she met and later married Jesse F. Slauson Sr. They initially settled at Powhatan Plantation and had four children. Helen was a longtime member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Helen became the consummate homemaker and was an accomplished seamstress, gardener, and cook. She prepared and canned fresh foods for the family from her garden and orchard. She raised beautiful flowers that many admired; and continued to garden up through her 80's. She loved and was loved by her cats throughout her life. Her current companion cat kept vigil at her side throughout her declining years. Helen's final days were spent at home where she was cared for by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jesse F. Slauson Sr.; and her eldest son, Jesse F. Slauson Jr.
She is survived by three children, William E. Slauson, Maralyn S. Carr and Patsy S. Dubay; one grandson, Isaac L. Carr; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen has always been our inspirational light and is sorely missed by her family.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, in the Jamestown Presbyterian Church with interment following in the Williamsburg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Bucktrout Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Online condolences may be registered at bucktroutfuneralhome.net. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Patsy and family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in your memories. As I think of the times we had as kids at the Wmsbg Moose, I remember your mom fondly.
