Herman HART Obituary

HAMPTON - Herman Latimer Hart died Nov. 19, 2009, at the Hampton Veterans Hospital Palliative Care unit.
He was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Asheville, N.C., to Henry Bryan Hart and Mary Latimer Hart. He joined the U.S. Army Jan. 14, 1943, and served during WWII participating in the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach, Normandy France. He graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and attended the St. Helena extension of The College of William and Mary. He owned Aluminum Window Works and Hart Enterprise Vending. He was a member of the Williamsburg Country Club where he spent much time enjoying golf with his devoted wife of 62 years. He was an avid duck pin bowler in his youth. He participated in community events with the Peninsula Kiwanis Club and mentored local youth as coach with the Northhampton Little League Association. He served as scout master and leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He retired from civil service at Fort Eustis Army Base. He enjoyed azalea gardening and walking outdoors. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and grandson. His friendly smile, warm laugh, and gentle manner will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Ellen; four children, Daryl Eugene Hart and wife, Marchelle, Patricia Lynn Hart-Trahan and husband, Augustus, David Latimer Hart and wife, Sharon, and Mary Jane Hart-McCrea Lyons and husband, John. He leaves behind one loving grandson, Michael Jerome McCrea Jr.
He was preceded in death by one older sister and four brothers, Isabelle Hart Williams, Henry Bryan Hart Jr., Norman Eugene Hart, Clement Hurst Hart, and Robert Childs Hart.
