Hickman JACKSON Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Hickman Bray "Jack" Jackson, 89, died suddenly on May 28, 2010.
He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Plymouth, N.C., to the late Charles and Virginia Jackson. Jack entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 serving in World War II, the Korean War and retired as Chief Petty Officer. He then worked and retired civil service from Fort Monroe. Jack was a member of the Moose Lodge for 36 years. Jack is remembered for his ever present humor and storytelling. An avid reader, he could talk intelligently about any subject and did so without prompting. He loved fishing with his little buddy Jake Snodgrass, hunting, making fishing lures and going to new places. He was lovingly teased about being the "duct tape king" because he could "fix" almost anything with it. His phrase "how ya doing, darling?" will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor "Peggy" Jackson; son, Hickman "Hickey" Jackson; and nephew, "Charlie Boy" Jackson.
He is survived by sons, Charles "Skip" Jackson and fiancEe, Pat Terry, William "Billy" Jackson and wife, Mary Ann; grandchildren, Jill Garrett and husband, Tom, Tamara Stiles, Sarah and Brient Jackson, Chris Jackson and wife, Shannon, Eric Jackson; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Riley, Jaxson, Owen, Adrianne, Jessica and Robbie. He also leaves to cherish his memory his companion and best friend, Lavinia Berry and the entire Berry family who have been so kind, loving and supportive. Remembered also are: Brian and Carlene Snodgrass, Debbie Jackson, Rick and Linda Hammock, Terry Jackson, Billy Allison and a host of other relatives and friends in both Virginia and North Carolina.
Funeral service officiated by the Rev. Fred Reed and Bill McCullough will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, N.C., following the service at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In memory of Jack memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Bena, VA 23018 for their tireless efforts given beyond the call of duty. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Skip & Family,
I was so sorry to hear about your father. He definately was one of a kind! Saw him last year at Wal-Mart, of-course, and I asked him how he stayed so young... I never dreamed he was 88. Loved the "Duct tape". Thinking of you all with the fondest of memories.

Skip, Billy and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this hard time. In my 30+ years of knowing Jack he always had a big smile and some story or joke to tell. He always welcomed me and treated me like family. I have the utmost respect for him and will never forget our times together. I know he's up there with Hickey reeling them in! All our love to the Jackson family. Greg, Lynne & Sarah Terry
