Howell REVERE Obituary

HARTFIELD - Howell Lee Revere, 98, of Hartfield, a lifelong Middlesex County resident, passed away peacefully on Dec. 18, 2009 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in a snow storm on Bob's Hole Road and departed this life in a snow storm. Mr. Revere graduated from Syringa School in 1929, and worked as a carpenter.
Mr. Revere founded Revere Gas from a small gasoline service station he built in Hartfield, in 1931. He grew the propane distribution business from one customer to a company serving many customers in 19 counties in eastern Virginia. He was a founding member of the Virginia Propane Gas Association.
He worked with a group of dedicated volunteers going door-to-door to collect funds to establish the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department in 1964. Mr. Revere developed many friendships, serving as a member of the Middlesex Lions club for 32 years. He was a faithful member of Lower United Methodist Church since the age of 12.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 76 years and business partner, Elizabeth Carlton; one son and his wife, Charles and Sally Gayle; his grandsons and their wives, Craig and Tammy, Carlton and Darla. He was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Austin, Joshua, Trevor, Charlie and William.
His lifelong hobby and love was farming "soldier" beans (soybeans). His comparison of yields with other farmers was always a great joy to him.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home in Saluda, Va. Funeral services will be the following day at 11 a.m., at Lower United Methodist Church in Hartfield. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to Lower United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Hartfield, VA 23071 View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I am so sorry for your loss and send my deepest sympathies. My happy memories of time spent with the Reveres on fishing trips and crabbing and enjoying wonderful meals remain after all these years. We couldn't wait to get to Hartfield and stop at Pop's store and grab Yoo-Hoo and candy. He will be greatly missed.
