J. Gillett Obituary
He was a Retired USN Veteran EMC (SS) who served from 1953-1972 on the USS Pensacola LSD-38, USS Threadfin SS-410, USS Seacat SS-339 and was with Korea-Special Support and PC-1170. He also was a schoolteacher with the Henrico County School System for 20 years. He loved teaching and his students loved him.
J. R. was a collector of fossils and old books. An avid fisherman, he loved the Chesapeake Bay. He was a wonderful husband, brother and uncle. His nieces and nephews loved spending time with him and listening to all his humorous stories. The family considered him their anchor and often went to him for his sage advice.
J. R. was born in Haywood County, N.C., Oct. 9, 1935, to Crawford and Pearl Gillett.
His survivors are his wife, Natalie L. Gillett; a sister, Gertrude Karriker; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, in Gwynn's Island Cemetery.

Natalie, Family and Friends,
Any one who knew J.R. knew his love for teaching, fishing, his country and his giving spirit. I have many fond memories of our teaching experiences at Highland Springs Tech Center and being a guest in your home. I was blessed to share a small part of his life. Praying for peace and understanding.
