GLOUCESTER - James Adams, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., and was a resident of Gloucester for eight years. James was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served both in WW II and the Korean War. He retired after 20 years with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and was a longtime employee of the Deer Run Golf Course.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Betty); and daughter, Peggy.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Adams Nance and husband, Charles, and Mary Adams Williams and husband, Joseph Sr.; grandchildren, CDR Rachael Nance Dempsey, USN and husband, Jack Major in USMC, Kristie Lassiter Coleman, Capt. Elizabeth Williams Cramer, USAF and husband, Robert, and Joseph Williams Jr. and fiancEe, Dana Henry; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Barefoot, Gracie Dempsey, Mary Elizabeth Cramer, Jack Dempsey and Caroline Eva Cramer; and sister, Alice Bell of Raleigh, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Parklawn Memorial Park.
