James MAGNUS Obituary

CARROLLTON - James Owen "J.O." Magnus, 88, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010.
A native of Hampton, Va., Owen was the son of the late William and Netti Owens Magnus. He had been a resident of Carrollton for some 25 years. He was an electrician with Newport News Shipbuilding and retired as an overhead crane operator, a lifetime accomplishment, after 30 years of service.
Owen enjoyed sports and played football with "The Crabbers" of Hampton High School. He was a member of the Newport News Moose Lodge. He enjoyed life and was well thought of and respected by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, Owen was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Bergonzoni Magnus; and his daughter, Jeanette Sheppard.
He leaves to cherish his memory his stepson, Fred L. Vick and his wife, Betty; his caregivers, Barbara Nixon and Claude Gilmartin, all of Carrollton; his grandchildren, Eddie Sheppard, Wendy Zach, and Kathy Zenetti; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler Zenetti and Allison Zach; nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating Owen's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. O.H. Burton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held in St. Luke's Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.

Well grandpa i do know mom is up there with open arms for you, so make sure you give her a big hug from me. I will always remember and laugh about our boating and airplane flying adventures, and me of course getting tangled up in you and Eddie's airplanes. You will be missed by alot of people, but you have given each one of us great memories that will always live on in our hearts.

Hi Grandpa... give Mama, Harriet, Aunt Kate, Great Grandpa & Nanny and all our loved ones a hug from us. Love you and will always think of you and share stories of my youthful times together. Your love for animals will continue with me and when I care for the wounded I know you'll be with me and guiding me to do the right thing. Enjoy your new wings and behave yourself.
