James DAILEY Obituary

COLONIAL BEACH - On Sunday, July 4, 2010, James S. 'Steve' Dailey, age 66, of Colonial Beach Va., surrounded by family and friends quietly slipped the bounds of earth and was graciously received into the arms of his Heavenly Father.
His battle with lung cancer was over. During his life, he served honorably in the USAF, achieved the position of area supervisor with Dominion Power, which he left to fulfill a personal calling to serve his community as a Master Police Officer, for the Newport News Police Department, from which he retired in 2004. He was a founding member and bass drum player for the Newport News Police Pipe and Drum Corps, "The Blue and Crimson Guardians," and a member of the Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, where he had found his spiritual home and could weekly profess and affirm his faith as a member of the choir.
Steve was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and was preceded on his journey by both his father and mother, Gerald and Henrietta Dailey; and three brothers, Joseph, Bobby and Paul Dailey.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 27 years, Sandra (Sandy) Dailey; a daughter, Michelle Bradley; three sons, James R. Dailey and his wife, Karen, John K. (Kenny) Hott and his wife, Jeanne, and Nicholas Dailey; and four grandchildren, whom he loved and adored, Zach and Kayla LeMasters, Devin Hott, and Nicole Dailey; two brothers, Phillip Dailey and his wife, Minnie Ellen, Brother Edward Dailey of Rome, Italy; one sister, Sister Margaret Ann Dailey; and his father and mother-in-law, Algernon (Mickey) and Janice Groves; as well as a host of close friends whom he considered to be a part of the family.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 10, at the Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, 1 Washington St., Colonial Beach, VA. The family will welcome friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the service to celebrate his life at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Brant Hays officiating. The ladies of the church will provide a luncheon in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the service. Burial will be private. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Steve requested in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made as contributions to the CBUMC Building Fund, P.O. Box 189, Colonial Beach VA 22443. He stated that while flowers, which may be beautiful, will wither and die, his church will live forever.

Steve,
The Bengali poet tells us that death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because the Dawn has come. May Jesus our Dawn from on high now shine brightly on you and may all of us live in the glow of that Light. You are now a rest in the Dawn we all await. We miss you indeed, dear brother, but we rejoice that you have run the race the full distance and have kept the faith. And now you have received the victory prize of being right with God, the crown of glory that awaits us all. You now shine among the stars of the firmament not only to me but to all of us who wit with love for Jesus to appear.

With deep love and gratitude for the gift you have been to each of us.

Your “Italian” brother, Ed
