Janet M. CARMINES

GILBERT, ARIZ. - Janet Marie Calvert Carmines (affectionately known as "Bubbie"), 74, a longtime resident of Hampton, Va., and the surrounding area, although she resided in Arizona for the last 30 years, passed away Dec. 16, 2009.
In the past, Mrs. Carmines worked in radio in the Hampton area, where she was employed at WNOR, WRQK and WGH. She was also employed for many years at Lincoln National Life Insurance. She enjoyed people and living life to the fullest. She often spoke of her time living at "Cedar Hall" in Hampton, and the many wonderful times she had there.
Mrs. Carmines was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Alberta "Bertie" Henley; her father, Milton Cooper Loyed; her sister, Gloria Jennings; her sister-in-law, Kitty Austin; her uncles, Maynard "Shorty" Chappell, and Louis "Louie Blue" Chappell; her niece, Karen Warga; and her two beloved daschunds, Terpsie and Phoebe.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Carmines; her sisters, Camiele Henley and Janice Spaulding; two daughters, Virginia Ann West and Sarah Arlene Gruszka; a brother-in-law, John Thomas Austin; a sister-in-law, Ann Carmines Straton; two sons-in-law, Pat West and Edward Gruszka; five grandchildren, James Edward West, Crystal Coffie (West), Jessica Henhoeffer (West), Kayci Marie Gruszka, and Joseph Edward Gruszka; and three great-grandchildren, Autumn Marie Henhoeffer, Nellie Raine Henhoeffer, Issac Henhoeffer; her aunt, Olivia Freeman; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to Marilyn and Tony Ippolito and their family, for their support and love over the years and during this difficult time. She considered their children, Stephanie and Michael Ippolito, her own grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley. This is a truly exceptional organization with truly exceptional people. Thank you.
