WILLIAMSBURG - Jesse Lee Harrod, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in the Hospice Support Care House of Williamsburg. His life began on November 23, 1925, the fifth child of the late William and Carrie Harrod, of Yorktown, Virginia. He was educated at York County Training School. At an early age, he joined Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove and later, he joined hands in fellowship with Little Zion Baptist Church - Grove. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, after thirty-one years of dedicated service. In 1962, and again in 1989, he joined hands in Holy Matrimony with the former Lena Roberts. Unto this union, they were blessed with a child. Jesse was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Sr., Richard and Floyd Harrod and three sisters, Pauline Wyatt, Rose Shields, and Joyce Lewis. Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Lena Harrod; his son, Jesse Lee Harrod, Jr.; his stepchildren, Sheila and Bystell; his three grandchildren; his fourteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Thelma Griffin; his brother, William Harrod; his sisters-in-law, Ann Harrod and Cora Cowles; and a host of nieces, nephews and many caring friends. A celebration of his life will be held 12:00 noon on Monday, April 22, 2013, in Little Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Linwood Gatling officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 122 Stanley Drive by 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Mr. Harrod may be viewed in the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
