Jimmy GREEN Obituary

YORKTOWN - Jimmy B. Green, 72, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. He was a native of Burnt Corn, Ala., and resident of York County for 48 years.
Jimmy was employed with Newport News Shipbuilding as a mechanical engineer in a supervisory position and retired in 1999 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served as one of its Deacons. Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed his church activities, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was compassionate, caring, selfless and content during his walk on this earth. His fingerprints are on all he touched. We celebrate his life.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Georgia Green; and sister, Ree Byars.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 53 years, Patricia A. Green; sons, Richard A. Green and wife, Julie of Fort Payne, Ala., and Kenny A. Green and his wife, Kimberly of Yorktown; daughter, Deborah A. Messick and husband, Craig of Yorktown; grandchildren, Kyle Messick and wife, Sarah of Leesburg; Lauren Messick of Yorktown, Lexie Green of Fort Payne, Ala., Bradley Green of Fort Payne, Ala., and Kendall Green of Yorktown; and sister, Sara Baggett of Atmore, Ala.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec.11, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1004 Yorktown Road, in Tabb, with a celebration of life service to follow at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. David Irwin. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Kenny, I know I only knew you and your dad for a very brief time, but in that time I spent quite a few days with him and was sincerely impressed with the way your dad carried himself like a gentleman and with the patience he showed to me while I was there... He really seemed like a mans man with great dignity and compassion for other people.. He told me more than once how proud he was of not only you but his entire family... I am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.. Good luck to you Kenny and family. I hope you carry on with your business, I think he would like that. God Bless.

We are deeply saddened on hearing of Jimmy's passing. He was always respected and admired by all who came in contact with him, especially those of us who worked with him or for him. There wasn't anything that he couldn't do,a real craftsman and engineer. God needed a talented engineer for his heavenly kingdom and Jimmy was his choice. We mourn his passing, we will always miss him and we will never forget him.

To the entire Green family. I met Jimmy twice while doing business with Kenny's company. His warmth and love for his family was evident when he spoke with great pride of the recent birth of his grandaughter. In just those two short meetings he was truely an inspiration to me. God Bless you all.
