John LONG Obituary

SUFFOLK - Today, John "Allen" Long, 72, is soaring with the angels. He went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Allen proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 29 years, as an accomplished and decorated Research and Development Engineer and Pilot, flying 10 different types of aircraft, single and multi-engine, propeller driven and jets accumulating over six thousand hours of flight time. He possessed an intense love for learning and graduated with degrees from the College of San Mateo, Auburn University, University of Southern California, and Old Dominion University. He also graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the Air War College, and the Naval War College.
He will be greatly missed by his mother, Marion Mazza; his brother, Carl Long; his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Jean Long; his three children, of whom he was so proud, Deborah Eves, Steven Long, and Jennifer Cline; daughter-in-law, Akiko Long; son-in-law, Greg Cline; six beautiful grandchildren, Caroline and Jonathan Eves, Rachel, Melody, and Nathan Long, and Zachary Cline; and his many friends and church family at the Newport News Church of the Nazarene.
A memorial service will be held on at 11 a.m., September 11, at the Newport News Church of the Nazarene, located at 29 Harpersville Road Newport News, VA 23601.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newport News Church of the Nazarene Building Fund and sent to the above address. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
