John WILSON Obituary

HAMPTON - John D. Wilson, Jr., 82, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010.
He was born in Madison, Maine, on Dec. 25, 1927. He mastered the trombone in Junior High School and went on to play in the All State Band and Orchestra in High School. He joined the U.S. Army after graduation attending the Army Band Training School. In the same fashion as his ancestors, he proudly served his country for 27 years in Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Germany, Fort Monroe, Va., Fort Meade, Md., and Fort Monmouth, N.J. Many of his descendents have followed his example.
In the midst of his many assignments, he called Hampton, Va., home since 1947. John also retired from the City of Newport News in the Vehicle and Equipment Services Department.
John leaves behind his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Norma Marlene Lee Wilson; his children, John Dewey Wilson III, Mildred Marie Hobbs, Lyndia Lee Wilson and Gary Alan Wilson; his grandchildren, Tina Klaugh, James 'Rick' Rink, Cheyenne Wilson, Kirk Romero, Eric 'Scott' Rink, Melanie Rink, Michael Romero, Cimarron Wilson and Matthew Hobbs; great-grandchildren, Stephen Carreiro, Adam Rink, Jesse Rink, Heather Rink, Trinity Romero, Mikayla White, Damien Wilson, Meakoda Wilson, Rowan Wilson, Cheyenne Linn Hobbs, Alex Rink, Michael Romero, Branden Rink; and great-great-grandchild, Aiden Carreiro, will all miss their Pop-Pop.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the members of the RAI Dialysis Center, HRT Handi-Ride, Sentara Careplex, Riverside Convalescent Home and to the Medics of the Hampton and Newport News Fire Departments.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
