John ROANE Obituary

GLOUCESTER - John Standly Roane, 94, died June 16, 2010, at Sanders Senior Living Community.
John was a native of Gloucester, born Oct. 11, 1915, to the late Beverley H. and Maude Roane. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the American Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After the service John returned to Gloucester, farming the land that he loved so much. He remained at his home until five years ago when he became a resident at Sanders, and he very much enjoyed his last years there. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
He is survived by nephews, James R. Gray and wife, Faye, William N. Gray and wife, Irene, John A. Gray and wife, Laverne, David B. Gray and wife, Janet, Thomas M. Roane, David J. Roane and wife, Linda, Bernard R. Roane and wife, Janet; nieces, Mary R. Livingston and husband, Earl, Arlene Ebelein and husband, John; and a host of great-nephews and great-nieces.
Graveside funeral service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Rita Staul. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
In memory of our beloved John, memorial contributions may be given to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, VA 23061.

My father was in Saunder's for rehab and was in the room with Mr.Roane we enjoyed his company very much and we use to bring little snacks to him. Rest his dear soul. Leslie R. Thomas (father Harvey Harris)
