John GODWIN Obituary

HAMPTON - John Wayne Godwin, 67, of Hampton, Va., passed away on Friday June 4, 2010, at Coliseum Park Nursing Home. He was born on March 18, 1943.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. A.P. and Alene Godwin; brother, Carter Godwin; and sisters, Roslyn Michael and Natalia Giles.
He attended Isle of Wright County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years where he received several distinguished medals. He was assigned to the USS Dubois where he was a HVAC mechanic. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the military, he began working at Newport News Shipyard where he dedicated many years of service. To better life for his family and himself, he began working at Fort Monroe where he retired as an HVAC mechanic in 1997.
He was survived by his wife, Earlene Godwin of Newport News, Va.; and two daughters, Karen Reynolds and Misti Godwin of Hampton, Va. He was also survived by five grandchildren, Karenza and Jermyah Reynolds, Dy'Chelle, Angelique, and Leon Fitzgerald III; three sisters, Jane Goodspeed of Fort Worth, Texas, Joan Godwin and Clara Jacobs of Newport News, Va.; and four brothers, Spurgeon and George Godwin of Hampton, Va., Dr. Alfred Godwin of Philadelphia, Pa., and Julius Godwin of Bowie, Md., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday June 8, 2010, at M.E. Fisher Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held noon Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
Service of Remembrance and Celebration Entrusted to M.E. Fisher Funeral Home.
