Joseph Nicosia Obituary

POQUOSON - Joseph A. Nicosia Sr., 85, a Poquoson resident most of his life, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.
He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, and served in the U.S. Army. He was a part owner and employee for S. Nicosia Produce Company.
Mr. Nicosia was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine H. Nicosia; parents, Salvatore "Sam" and Grace Nicosia; great-grandson, "Little Leon" Nicosia Jr.; and two brothers, Lawrence Nicosia and Frank Nicosia.
He is survived by his two sons, Joseph Anthony Nicosia Jr. and David Ernest Nicosia; two daughters-in-law, Jean Merriel Blount Nicosia and Mabel Lawrence Nicosia; three grandchildren, Leon Nicosia, Bonnie King, and Robin Hassler and husband, Todd; three great-grandchildren, Samantha King, Bobby Boes Jr., and Mary Jane Nicosia; a brother, Salvatore "Sam" Nicosia Jr. and wife, Jane; a half-brother, Santo Branchino and wife, Minnie; two sisters, Antonette "Nettie" Lupia and Carmen Wilson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family received friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at 41 Holloway Road, Poquoson. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today, at the funeral home by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, 3700 Huntington Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607 or Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, VA 23662.
