Josephine Murray Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Josephine Murray, 69, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 5, 1940, to Vito and Grace Perfetto, the youngest of three children. Josephine graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1958 and after graduation she worked in advertising, for William Estes, in New York City. She married John Murray on July 14, 1963, after a courtship that began when they attended their Senior Prom together. Josephine and John lived in Acton, Mass., and Hertford, N.C., before retiring to Williamsburg, Va.
Josephine worked in the Human Resources Department at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Mass., for 11 years. She volunteered at her daughters' schools and participated in gourmet groups, bridge club, and shared her love of gardening with everyone. Josephine enjoyed spending weekends in Kennebunkport, Maine, where she and John had a second home.
After surviving breast cancer, Josephine organized three golf tournaments to raise funds for cancer research. She volunteered at Sentara Hospital and Rita Welsh Adult Literacy Center. Josephine was an active member of St. Bede's Catholic Church and throughout her life she derived much strength from her faith.
Retirement provided Josephine with the opportunity to practice her golf swing, participate in water aerobics, bridge, and bunko with her friends at Albemarle Plantation and Colonial Heritage. Josephine enjoyed traveling with her husband, friends, and family, from gastronomic adventures in Italy to Walt Disney World with her grandchildren.
Josephine is survived by her husband of 46 years, John; her two daughters, June Murray of Dracut, Mass., and Jeanette Corgnati of Fairfax, Va. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Maggie and Matthew Corgnati.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bede's Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Va., on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188 and the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714. Jo Murray was a wonderful addition to the Colonial Heritage Community and one of our original Social Committee members. I enjoyed seeing her smiling face at the Clubhouse and she will be truely missed.
