Joshua J. RICHARD

WILLIAMSBURG - Joshua J. Richard was called to eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. His life began on Sept. 20, 1927, the son of the late Alice and Norton Richard Sr. of Holdcroft, Va.
He was a resident of Williamsburg for more than 57 years and a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Williamsburg. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Cheatham Annex after 37 years of dedicated service. Joshua also retired from Colonial Williamsburg after 26 years of untiring service. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Geraldine Minkins, Elsie Tyler and Ruth Armstead.
He leaves to cherish his blessed memories his loving wife, of 56 years, Clarstine Richard; his son, Ryan L. Richard; his granddaughters, Gene´ and Miya and their mother, Gina and Danielle and her mother, Carol; his sisters, Elneeda Ashlock, Josephine Gray (Larry), Princess Patterson (Bryan), Shirley Walker (Clint), all of Williamsburg and Lillie Durham (Rodney) of Silver Spring, Md.; his brother, Norton Richard Jr.; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; his nieces and nephews and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life he lived, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in First Baptist Church 727 Scotland Street with the Rev. Dr. Reginald F. Davis officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Va. Family and Friends will assemble at the church by 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Richard may be viewed in the funeral home on Wednesday (tonight) from 5 to 7 p.m.
