Joyce Insley Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Joyce Elaine Harlan Insley, 72, passed away at home Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.
A native of Bridgeport, N.Y., Joyce had been a resident of Hampton Roads since 1979. Joyce had been a deli manager for local grocers and retired from BE-LO Foods after a number of years of service.
She was the wife of the late, Kenneth Insley. Joyce is survived by her son, Mark W. Harlan and his wife, Cheri, of Smithfield; her stepdaughter, Cathy Shields, and her husband, Mallory, of Poquoson; four grandchildren, Melanie Shea Saunders, Kenneth Morris, Amy Washburn and Sarah Washburn; and soon to be great-grandmother of Laina Kay Mitchell to be born in December.
Joyce will be remembered as loving and caring person. Patient and kind to everyone around her, her home was like home to many boys and girls who affectionately called her "Mom".
A service celebrating Joyce's life will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, with the Rev. Scott Benson presiding. A private burial ceremony is planned. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, c/o Lois Little, P.O. Box 4, Rescue, VA 23424.
Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
