Joyce BILTZ Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Joyce Kane Biltz, 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at Hospice House.
Mrs. Biltz was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 19, 1932, where she lived until she moved to Williamsburg 15 years ago to be with her family.
She was a life-long educator and administrator who loved teaching. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in Columbus, Ohio. She held a variety of positions in the Columbus Public School System including truant officer, principal and visiting teaching. In the late '80s, she became deputy superintendent and remained in that position until she retired. She also served as president of the board of directors for the Midstate Educators Credit Union in Columbus, Ohio. After her retirement she remained active in education frequently substituting and tutoring students in the Williamsburg area.
She received her BS in Education from the University of Miami in Miami, Fla., and Masters of Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Biltz is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Biltz; parents, Margaret D. and William T. Kane; brothers, Michael J and William T. Kane. She is survived by Molly B. McBeath of Williamsburg; son-in-law, Dr. George R. McBeath and granddaughters, Katelynn J. and Christine Claire; along with numerous nieces and nephews in Cleveland, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held later this summer in Columbus, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va.

I worked with Joyce and the "Midstate Educators Credit Union, Board of Directors" from 1985 thru 1997 as the "President/CEO." My wife and I knew Joyce very well and always admired and respected her. She will be missed by many friends and family, Sincerely, Ed Garver
