Julie MITCHAM Obituary

YORKTOWN - Julie Ann Register Mitcham passed away on Dec. 6, 2010, after her courageous battle with cancer. Born on Dec. 28, 1958, in Columbus, Ga., Julie spent her childhood with her parents, Romana Hambrick and Zadok Register.
Julie met her husband of 25 years, James R. Mitcham III (Jim), when he was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. They dated for four years as he patiently waited for her to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Columbus College. They were married at beautiful Lake Martin, Alabama, where they shared some of their most precious moments. Their life with the U.S. Army transported them to many assignments including Fort Bragg, Fort Campbell, Korea, the Pentagon, and finally, Fort Monroe, Va.
Julie and Jim established their home in Yorktown in 1997 where they raised their two beautiful children, James and Lauren. Julie defined motherhood in her love and dedication to her family and community. She was loved and admired by many. She was a swim team organizer, cheerleading coach, a lacrosse coach, a marathoner, a great running partner and wonderful friend. While usually a little late for appointments, Julie was taken too early to Heaven in the opinion of those who loved her.
Memorial services are planned for Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at St Luke's United Methodist Church, 300 Ella Taylor Rd in Yorktown, VA 23692, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
We ask that expressions of sympathy be made as donations to the Sarcoma Foundation of America at www.curesarcoma.org. Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 757-825-8070. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Jim,
I send my heartfelt condolences to you & your family on the loss of your dear Julie. Even when she was fighting this horrid disease, Julie was concerned about how we were doing and it was so appreciated. I recently heard that God must have needed more good angels in heaven and I am holding on to that comforting thought. May the good memories you have sustain you through this very tough time. God's blessings on you & yours, Toni
