Katie KEARNEY Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Katie Bell Kearney answered the Lord's call and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at James River Convalescent Center. Katie was born on May 2, 1930, to the late Percy and Irene Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Fuller Kearney; three sons, David, Rickey and an unnamed son; a daughter, Donna K. Cooke; and a grandson, Jhirmaine Kearney.
She loved the Lord and enjoyed praising Him in her own special way. Prior to her death, Katie was a member of Faith Deliverance Baptist Church. She loved being around people, she loved to laugh and she loved her novelty slippers. Her laugh was so contagious where just hearing her laugh would make you laugh. She had a wonderful spirit and will be missed by many but her memory will be in the hearts of those who knew her for years to come.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Carl and Stanley Kearney; daughters, Evelyn Rosser, the Rev. Gloria Woods (Gregory) and Kathy Kearney; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Rena Mae Lacewell (Elijah) and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Faith Deliverance Baptist Church, 6116 Roanoke Ave., Newport News, VA 23607, with the Rev. Kingwood, officiating.
