Kazimierz "Kaz" Czarnecki

NEWPORT NEWS - Kazimierz 'Kaz' Czarnecki, 89, a Peninsula resident since 1939, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005. Kaz was very active in the Republican Party on state and local levels and often served as a polling official. He was a member of the Republican Commission of Newport News, the Southeastern Computer Club and was a former troop master for Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Czarnecki was a 1939 graduate of University of Alabama and started his employment with NACA in 1939 and continued there until his retirement from NASA in 1979 as a Sr. Aeronautical Research Engineer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Julia R. Czarnecki, and a brother, Ed Czarnecki. Survivors include his son, Michael R. Czarnecki and his wife, Kathleen, of Newport News; a daughter, Anna Varinski of Decatur, Ga.; one grandson, Justin Read; a son-in-law, Bill Read of Georgia; a niece, Joyce Naumann; a nephew, Steve Czarnecki; nieces, Farrah, Jan and Traci; great-nieces, Jan Massey and Nan Chandler; great-nephews, Dan and Robert Naumann; and a host of great-great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial following in Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
