HAMPTON - Lamar J. "Jim" Barger, 78, died at home following a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 16, 2013. A native of Gravel Ridge, AR, he was a member of the 1953 undefeated Grand Haven High School football team. He has been happily married to his high school sweetheart, Delores for 59 years. Jim served in the US Air Force, retiring in 1974 after 20 years of service. He then went to work for the civil service, again retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knight of the John F. Kennedy Assembly. Survivors include his wife, Delores Barger; his children, Richard A. Barger and his wife, Fran, James E. Barger and his wife, Kathy, Lorraine A. King and her husband, Michael, and Brian J. Barger; four grandchildren, Meredith and Kevin King and Haley and Erin Barger; a sister-in-law, Caroline McFadden; a brother-in-law, Thomas Puleo and his wife, Trudy; and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Dan McFadden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 20, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Msgr. Walter Barrett. Interment with full Air Force honors will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-6PM Sunday in the R.
