LaWanda Diggs Obituary
'Tracie,' as she was affectionately called, was born on Oct. 20, 1972, in Newport News, Va. She was a member of Greater Revival Tabernacle COGIC, a graduate of Homer L. Ferguson High School, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Diggs of Newport News.
She is survived by her father, Aubrey Diggs Sr. of Newport News;
brothers, Aubrey Diggs Jr. (Lisa), and Joseph Diggs, both of Newport News; sisters, Donna White (Kelvin) of Newport News, and Lori Harrell of Woodbridge; nephews, Denzel Diggs and Kalvin 'KT' Diggs, both of Newport News; nieces, Charisma Diggs of Newport News, and Maya Harrell of Woodbridge; great nephews, Ja'Niere Diggs and Jaquez Tynes of Newport News; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Gospel Light United Holy Church, 2614 Marshall Ave., Newport News, with the Rev. Alvin R. Rooks Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will assemble at 633 Decatur Street by 11:45 a.m. Thursday. Tracie may be viewed from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.

I am still in shock over the loss of my cousin Tracie. I can remember when she was a little tot and we kept her at our house. My condolences to the family. I remember when we lived next door to each other in dickerson courts, we had some good times. Tracie was the joker, she always had something funny to say or did something funny to make you laugh. Tracie will be missed. and safely meeting new people day and night. It breaths and it moves it drinks and consumes, it has feelings, like all of us in life. We have emotions and that’s why we cry we also have happy moments we live and we die.
We have a heart we have a brain and unfortunately there is only so much they can contain, they think and they love they learn and they break but our bodies are strong we can usually fix any damage and any wrong we go to the church and say a prayer or two then we get forgiven for any bad things we do.
After a long life our bodies have a rest and their spirits and souls live another long life.

Lawanda, I was sadened when I opened the news paper and saw you smiling at me. Seeing your obituary in the paper hit me as a great shock. Your smile was just the same as it was at Ferguson High School. I instantly informed my FB family and the response was the same, shocked. My prayers go out to the Diggs family. I had the pleasure of working with Tracie at Maida and we lived in the same apartment complex. There was never a dull moment when Tracie was around she kept a smile on her face and a joke coming out her mouth. The last time I saw her, she smiled and called out my name. I didn't know when we embraced it would be the last time. Even though we hadn't spoken on a regular basis, the mention of your name brings back fond memories!! You will be missed! RIP my friend!

I don't think it has really hit me yet. I remember the times my brothers and I spent on 17th and 19th streets at the Diggs house...That was one of the only homes my parents would let us stay overnight. I remember the INXS poster Tracie had on her door :-). I remember walking to the store, remember riding the bus to Newmarket Mall. The Diggs Family always has and always will hold a special place in the heart of the Rooks Family. No matter how distant we become over the years, we are stil family. My prayers are will all of you and I'll be there to celebrate Tracie's life on Thursday. I love you all!

We attended Ferguson Highschool together. We shared many laughs, and wonderful times, Lawanda, Trina Foxx, and I. I thank God for the opportunity to have known Lawanda, and I'm sure that wherever it is her spirit has ascended, she is happy and is gracing other like spirits with her presence....Its also comforting to know that even though she'll be missed; as the scripture tells us; to be absent from the body, is to be present with the lord.
