Lawrence Motley Obituary
Born in Spray, N.C., he has been a Hampton resident since 1947 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Motley had served in the U.S. Navy and then worked as an electrician for the Chessie Railroad retiring in 1983. He was a member and former Vice General Chairman of the IBEW, as a member and Past Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose #1119, and was a former member of the Board of Directors of Chessie Credit Union.
Mr. Motley was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Motley; and is survived by his children, Mildred M. Warren, Vanessa G. Motley, Lawrence R. Motley II, and Ronald B. Motley; brothers and sisters, William A. Motley, Isaac J. Shelton, and Marie S. Higgs; four grandchildren, David Brooks, Alison Politte, Ryan Motley, and Roni Leigh Motley; and three great-grandchildren, Cheyanne Brooks, Hali Southern, and Brody Politte.
Special thanks to Northampton Convalescent and Rehab for their care and support.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church by the Rev. Peter Sousa CSsR. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Downtown Hampton.

To the Motley Family; it is always so heart breaking to hear the news of a family losing a loved one. My heart goes out to the family but especially Lawrence's children and in particular his daughter Vanessa; one of the best things Lawrence added to this world.
God Bless Lawrence and the Motley Family in this difficult time.

To The Motley Family; I was sad to hear about the passing of your father. I got to know him while taking care of his wife whom he loved dearly. they were very good people always kept you smiling i never walk into their home and and was not welcome with a big smile.it was my pleasure and honor to have gotten to meet your parents. I know they are smiling more than ever to be together in the present of the lord . I know you will miss him just keep the memories alive and trust and believe in God.I thought about your dad ever this week he was in my spirit.I smile ever time i think about him he was a good person to me.I will keep you all in my prayers
