Lena Francis Obituary
She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home.
Lena was the fifth of six children, born to James and Mamie Wynne on April 19, 1927. She grew up in Newport News, Va., and after graduating high school spent a short period of her early adulthood in New York. She returned to Newport News and later married William E. Francis, to whom she was married for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two loving sisters, Alberta Hood and Lillian Dale.
Lena leaves to celebrate her memories two sons, Leslie and Eric; a daughter-in-law, Martine; a grandson, Trevor; three sisters, Harriet Brown, Eva Bowman, and Seena Guthrie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, which is located at 1601 27th Street, Newport News, Va. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, which is located at 521 North Avenue, Newport News, Va. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cookebros.com.

I learned too late of the viewing. I would have attended had I been adequately informed. I did get by the church. I remember the energetic personality she displayed.
