Marcus Scheumann Obituary

HAMPTON - Marcus Carl Scheumann Jr., 84, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he had been a resident of Hampton since 1965.
Marcus served in the 6th Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. He continued to serve our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years in the military and then went to the Marshall Wythe School of Law at William and Mary. After graduation, he practiced law in Hampton for several years before ending his career as a Business Law professor at Thomas Nelson Community College.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Patricia S. Scheumann; children, Marc Scheumann III of Millington, Tenn., Melissa S. Trask and her husband, Jim of New Bern, N.C., Molly S. Peach and Jeff Scheumann both of Hampton; brother, Vern Scheumann of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Allison, Megan, Caitlyn and Molly; and great-grandson, Jacob.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A graveside service will be held with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the American Red Cross, 4915 W. Mercury Blvd., Newport News, VA 23605.

Molly - Please give your mom (the nicest mom in the world), Marc, Melissa and Jeff my sincerest sympathy. I remember what a close family you had and all the fun we had growing up in Elizabeth Lakes. Most of all, I remember your laugh. You have the greatest laugh of anyone I've ever met. Hopefully, you'll be able to laugh again soon. So sorry about your dad.
