Margaret Foster Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Margaret Becker Foster, 86, passed away on Nov. 3, 2009, at Williamsburg Sentara Hospital.
She was born Aug. 22, 1923. in Warwick County to Charles Otto Becker and Sarah Jane Burnham. Margaret attended Hilton Elementary School, Warwick High School and graduated from Hampton High School with the Class of 1941. Margaret worked as a secretary for N.A.C.A. from 1941 to 1942. Raymond Edell Foster Jr., and Margaret were married on Feb. 14, 1943.
She is survived by their five sons, Robert D. Foster, Raymond E. Foster III, William A. Foster, David O. Foster and Stephen L. Foster; and eight grandchildren, Susan Foster Silvus, Tracy A. Foster, Margaret Foster, Elizabeth Foster, Raymond Foster IV, Jacob Foster, Otto Foster, and William Foster; seven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews.
Margaret and Raymond owned and operated the Dari Freeze of Jefferson Avenue in Newport News from 1957-1977 and The Cream Scene in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., from 1972-1975. She enjoyed swimming, fishing, crabbing on the James River and she loved most the beach at Nags Head, N.C. Margaret enjoyed dancing and tennis throughout her life.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be held Friday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Catholic Campus Ministry Chapel at Richmond Rd. and Harrison Ave., Williamsburg.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd. Ste A102, Newport News, VA 23606, Attn: Williamsburg Unit.

Dear Ray and family, Bob and I were saddened by Margaret:s passing. We were out of town,but hope to see you this week.We all had some great times together traveling, playing poker, going to the beach and just enjoying life. Ray and family, We would like to express our deepest sympathy. We have wonderful memories of Margaret and our
days of "old", the Dari-Freeze and the
White Hall Club. We regret not being able to be there in person to share these memories with you and the boys.
Sam and Margaret saw to much of each other during their treatments and hospital visits. But, I am glad they
