Margaret HOLMES Obituary
She was born on May 26, 1918, to Ross and Lillian Hester in Newport News, Va.
Margaret was preceded in death by her late husband, Woodrow L. Holmes Sr.; and one sister, Lucille Brooks.
She received her former education in the Newport News' public school system. Later, she moved to New York where she became a resident for more than 45 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Joseph Johnson (Julie) of New Brittan, Conn., Woodrow L. Holmes Jr. (Lillian) of Newport News, Va., Carol Budd of Washington, D.C., Malcolm Holmes of Brentwood, N.Y., and Lucille Purcell of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Antoinette, Esther, Joey, Julie, Joseph, Sharon, Sheryl, Lathan, Tracey, Jitrice, Nicole and Shalonda. She has 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great- grandchildren.
A homegoing service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Johns C.O.G.I.C., 2416 Orcutt Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. Interment will follow in Pleasant Shades Cemetery, Hampton, Va. Viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel, 1601 27th Street, Newport News, VA 23607.
