Mary BROOKING Obituary

MATHEWS - Mary Rose Brooking, 71, went to meet the angels on Oct. 5, 2010, following a long struggle with numerous medical challenges.
She was born May 20, 1939, to George Madison and Ellen Grinnell White. Mary Rose was a 1956 graduate of Mathews High School and the class Salutatorian. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, charter member and past president of Central Village Homemakers Club and American Legion Post 83 Auxiliary. She also had worked as secretary to the county administrator for 12 years.
Mary Rose was preceded in death by her parents and a special aunt, Margaret White Dutton.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years and best friend and care giver, John William "Billy" Brooking; her special son, George Martin Broaddus and wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Fallon Nicole Broaddus, and Stephen Blaine Callis.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Ed Pruitt, the Rev. Suzanne Gibson and the Rev. Richard Linger will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Windsor Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family will also be receiving friends on Saturday prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church.
