NEWPORT NEWS - Mary "Miss Tootsie" Taylor Alexander, 75, widow of Clarence Alexander, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, June 5, 2002. She was born February 4, 1927, in Newport News. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Taylor; her brother, Junius Taylor; and aunts, Helen Artis and Carrie Campbell. She attended Huntington High School. She is survived by her daughters, Mildred Taylor, Shirley Campbell and Ann Snead; one sister-in-law, Celestine Taylor; one aunt, Louise Strickland; one uncle, Robert Perry; seven grandchildren, Kelly Taylor, Yolanda Schaffer (Lawrence), G'Nell Cooper (Antoine), Sean Snead, Harry Snead, Derek Snead and Onika Snead; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A homegoing service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Antioch Baptist Church, located at 29th Street and Roanoke Avenue. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Newport News. Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, and two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday. The family will receive friends at 613 20th Street, Newport News, and will also assemble there by 1 p.m. Monday for the procession to the church. Arrangements by O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
