Maryann Charest Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Maryann Elizabeth Charest, 67, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at home following a lengthily and courageous battle with cancer. Her husband of 47 years and son, Kevin, were at her bedside.
Maryann was born on Jan. 17, 1942, in Valley Stream, N.Y., to her late parents, Paul and Julia Smith. Maryann worked most of her life in the administrative medical field, while also being a great Mom to her son and a loving wife to her husband. Maryann is a past President of the Columbiettes and also a life member.
Maryann is survived by her husband, Roland; son, Kevin; brother, retired Capt. U.S. Navy Paul Smith of Mathews; mother-in-law, Mary Charest; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Minton, Theresa Boneske and Leona Solow and her husband, Dan, all living in the state of Delaware; 12 nieces; 12 nephews; 11 grandnephews; 12 grandnieces; three stepgrandnephews; and many loving and extraordinary friends.
Maryann 'Babe' I will always love you and you will be missed greatly, your husband, your best friend Ron.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be at noon, Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Our Lady Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
The family would like to express our sincere thank you to the kind and caring staff at the Peninsula Cancer Institute and Personal Touch Hospice, The People with a Heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that Donations be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd. Suite A102, Newport News, VA 23606.
