Mattie Fuller

EMPORIA - Mattie Porter Fuller, 79, of Emporia, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.
A native of Newsoms, Va., she was born to Amos Porter and Lillie Vick Porter on Feb. 2, 1930. Mrs. Fuller graduated from Newsoms High School in June 1948 and moved to Emporia where she worked several years. She retired from Rose's department store in 2000. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was president of her class for 25 years and was ordained as a deaconess and also served as president of Senior Circle several times.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Cooper and her husband, Marc of Smithfield; two sisters, Catherine Pope of Conway, N.C., and Jackie Ferguson of Emporia and several nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Fuller was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Archie L. Fuller; and brothers, Roy Porter and J. T. Porter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd in Jarratt, Va. The funeral service will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Greensville Memorial Cemetery in Emporia, Va.
