Mayme BROWN Obituary

RALEIGH, N.C. - Mayme L. Brown departed this life on Aug. 28 2010, in Raleigh, N.C.
She was born in a place called Pinnick Town, Ky., a small black town which no longer exists. Mayme Lee Johnson Brown was born on May 19, 1917.
Mayme was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist in East Orange, N.J., for more than 30 years where she was a Missionary and worked with many community organizations and was active in politics.
When she moved to Williamsburg in 1989, she joined First Baptist Church and rendered faithful and humble service until she moved to Raleigh in April of 2006.
Mayme spent many hours volunteering her time at food banks, the Salvation Army, retirement homes and anywhere she saw a need. Mayme was a living example of Christian values, always thinking of her fellowman, always helping and working to better her community. She volunteered as a foster grandmother in the local school system, working with at risk children. She organized the annual Christmas Stocking which is an annual project today for needy children. Even after moving to another state, Mayme returned to Williamsburg from time to time to visit.
After moving to Raleigh with her daughter Stacie, she began to attend Mt. Carmel AME Church in Bailey, N.C.
Mayme was predeceased by her husband, Eugene A. Brown, after 62 years of marriage. They were united in Holy Matrimony Dec. 24, 1945.
She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife, Sharon, of Orlando, Fla.; her daughter (with whom she made her home), Stacie, of Raleigh, N.C.; a loving and devoted cousin, Billie Jean Staton; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in First Baptist Church, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Reginald F. Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Brown may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
Professional services entrusted to the staff of Baker-Chinn Funeral Home, Arlington, Va., and Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
