WILLIAMSBURG - Michael B. Waltrip, 56, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Nov. 3, 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judy Waltrip; a brother, Daniel Waltrip, and his wife, Judy Waltrip; a daughter, Brenda Goins, and her husband, Gene Goins; a son, Troy West, and his wife, Ruth West; four grandchildren, Savannah, Tucker, Trevor and Braydon; and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Waltrip and his mother, Margaret Waltrip.
Michael retired after 33 years as shop foreman from WJCC School Bus Transportation where he met his best friend and love of his life. Michael was a native, lifelong resident of Williamsburg and was very involved in his church where he served as head usher and in many other positions. Michael loved life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, NASCAR, and spending time with his family.
Michael definitely made a positive difference in the lives of all who knew him. Even through his courageous battle with cancer, Michael always put everyone else first. He showed us all how to enjoy life!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 4287 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com. Mr. Waltrip was my first patient ever at Sentara Williamsburg. I thought about him everyday since his discharge. He was always kind and managed to smile even though he wasn't feeling his best. I will truly miss him. My prayers go out to the Waltrip Family. Nicole German, RN 4 South

Judy & Family -
Mike will be sorely missed. As I reflect back when we worked together, I can hear his strong voice and his laughter. His hard work was second to none. I remember what a team the two of you made. The hard work setting up the best darn Road-e-o ever! I remember when you and Mike stopped by the house after a day of fishing. I always appreciated Mike's good humor, his absolute professionalism and most of all his complete support! He really made a difference. Judy, my prayers and thoughts are with you.

A great neighbor and friend. Mike always was always there and often before he was even asked. His Christian example should be one that we should all follow. He'll be greatly missed, but we look forward to seeing him again one day. Our deepest sympathies to the Waltrip family.

Dear Waltrip Family - I was sad to learn of Mike's passing, and I hope that God will continue to bless your family with graces to endure through this difficult time. I have lost touch with Mike and Judy since the time I worked with him in Pupil Transportation for WJCC from 1992 - 1996, but my wife Darlene and I have fond memories of the good times we shared at VAPT Conferences. Mike always showed such a caring and giving spirit, and you could never find a more dedicated, hard working, and professional maintenance manager. He did it all for the kids. May he have peace in his eternal rest.
