HAMPTON - Mildred "Millie" Mae Wainwright, 98, of Hampton, passed away at Sentara Careplex Hospital, on Tuesday June 18. She was born in Newport News to Kenneth G. Shockley and Emma Wilson Shockley on Oct 3, 1914. She lived 64 years in the Olde Wythe section of Hampton, where she spent many days as a substitute teacher in the local school system. Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William Wainwright, five brothers and a sister. She is survived by her youngest sister, Janice Lee Shockley of The Devonshire, where they both lived. She is survived by her cousins, several nieces, and nephews. Millie was an avid doll collector and loved sharing her stories about each and every one of them to all who would listen. Her family and friends would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of The Devonshire and her caregivers for their loving and devoted care over the past year. A private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Avenue, Hpt, VA 23669.
