Oneal Rutledge Obituary
She was born March 3, 1928, in Sussex County, to the late Sylvanious Roberts and Annie Jones Roberts in Sussex County, Va. She attended public school in Wakefield.
She was a missionary Evangelist under the late Elder Samuel Barrett.
She later relocated to Newport News and became a member of Walters Temple AME in the 50's.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Arthur R. Rutledge; one son, Arthur R. Rutledge III; her sister, Queen E. Thomas; grandchildren, Renee Mason Rutledge Miller, Alonzo Bennett, Wesley Bennett and Casondra Bennett; great-grandchildren; a special niece, Virginia Sanders; two special friends, Rena Carr and Belinda Washington; special friends, Walter Chandler, Richard Thomas, Mr. .Larry Scott; and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Viewing will begin 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St., NN, Va., with a wake from 4 to 5 p.m. at the chapel. A homegoing service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Greater Walters AME Zion, 656-28th St., NN, VA 23607. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg, Va. To the Family of Mrs Rutledge, Many years ago Mrs Rutledge did my hair and my sister, my mother drove us from York county to downtown, Newport News,I believe it was "The Three Sisters Shop", we were young and this before intergration. She was always pleasant, a smile and took time with us. May God continue to bless you and hold on to those memories.
