To the family of Ms. Thomas,

I am gratefully saddened to hear about the loss of Ms. Thomas. She was a dear, sweet lady, who I will always remember for her smiles the laughter we shared. I used to do her lawn every Saturday. Edging, cutting her grass, and weedeating were never a chore for me at her house. I wanted to get the work done, so we could spend time talking.

My fondest memory that I still laugh until I cry today was once when she told me a terrible thing had happened. She told me that "she had taken her new hearing aid out, had it in her hand, and was eating peanuts." She said she grabbed a handful of peanuts and without thinking popped them (and the hearing aid) in her mouth! She said, "Could you imagine the time I had explaining to the insurance company that I had just chewed up my brand new hearing aid!" I think I totally shocked her when I fell off her couch laughing!! She and I laughed until we had tears running down our faces! When I think about the look on her face as she told me that story, I still crack up today, about 13 years later! Ms Thomas was a riot! She always made me smile and laugh.

Ms Thomas had me put in 1800 zoyzia plugs in her yard. The next Saturday, she had a company put in a sprinkler system! All you could do was shake your head and smile. She was quite a friend and such an incredible person.

Stories she told me about how she had struggled through tough times in her life, losing her son and daughter, and seeing what a stronger person she was, gave me strength and hope too.

Ms Thomas loved Matthew, my son. They would sit and talk when I did the lawn. I would ask if he was bugging her and she'd tell me, "Go do your job. Matthew and I are talking. We're learning from each other." He was 4 or 5 then. She never let me forget when he was telling her something HE thought was important, she was dozing off, and he said, "Ms Thomas, are you listening to me?" Something she said to him often.

I never knew an older person that kept their flowerbeds, garden, and lawn so well kept and did the work she did at her age! And man, the stuff she grew in her garden. She visited me at saw my garden once. It didn't compare to hers. She was amazing. With you all, I will miss her too.
